BMR4 has been described as "a straight ahead jazz quartet from Chicago that incorporates blues, funk, Cajun, Latin, soul-jazz, and R&B into their act." The quartet features acoustic bassist CHRIS BERNHARDT, JAY MOYNIHAN on reeds and keyboard, MIKE RODBARD on drums, and NEAL ALGER on guitar. Neil Tesser wrote of BMR4 that it "plays a lot of songs rooted in blues and R & B. Music by James Brown jostles up against familiar tunes from Steely Dan or the Beatles; up-tempo modal jazz tunes from the 60s share space with moody, atmospheric pieces straight out of a movie soundtrack; and [it all includes] the infectious groove of John Scofield’s music. "

General admission:  $10 and $5 for students with ID’s and children accompanied by adults.

The lovely L26 Restaurant is in the South Loop Hotel, located at 26th & State. There is free parking in the hotel lot just west of the building on 26th and plenty of on street, unmetered spaces. Since L26 is smaller than Room 43, you may want to get there a little early for good seats. A dinner menu is available (as well as light fare), and drink prices have been reduced for the Hyde Park Jazz Society audience. Be sure to ask for the HPJazz Society prices.

Front and center on the stage at the new location of his home base for music and more, Lawrence "P Funk" Barksdale on lead guitar. He is THE man in Lawrence’s Studio and Lounge, newly located at 6012 Madison, Cincinnati, Ohio. We were absolutely thrilled to meet him when his band, Secret Sprits, had their GRAND OPENING JAM on Sat., August 15, 2009. This band is going places. Their new studio has unlimited potential in many areas of the music industry and also in the Cincinnati Ohio community. Lawrence has an array of fantastic ideas that you will soon be hearing about.   If you are ON Harlem Avenue, facing OGDEN AVENUE, this would be your view. The address for Harlem Avenue Lounge is 3701 S. Harlem Ave., Berwyn, IL. That White Castle you see there is ON the actual corner of Harlem & Ogden, and its parking lot/drive-thru are next to an alley between it and Harlem Avenue Lounge. You can turn into this alley and there are a couple of spaces to park in, but only a couple, right there on the side of the alley-next to the guard rail dividing White Castle from the alley. The only reason we say this is because we did all of this & just want to help. Easiest just to turn around (no parking behind the lounge) (which is where you ENTER to get inside) and back out of the alley as there is PLENTY of street parking RIGHT ON Harlem Avenue. FOR FREE!

Here you are on Harlem Avenue – right on the alley, walk a ways down the alley to the back entrance.

 See the back door in the above photo, there is the chair where a very nice fellow named Dave was sitting. The bathrooms are by the back door. Next, the pool table / game area.

     Next is the bar and at the front of the bar, the stage! We went on a Friday night to see the J.B. Ritchie Power Trio. The owner Ken was there working away with his bartendress for the evening, Angie! Everyone was so  nice – we had a blast!
