"Pete Special and Elwood have been pals since they first met

in Chicago during the shooting of THE BLUES BROTHERS movie.

Pete was recorded live, exclusively for the Radio Hour,

at a recent performance for Levon Helm’s legendary

concert series, the Midnight Ramble.

You will hear some of that (the entire concert can be heard

right here through the miracle of the Internet).

Also, tunes from his CD, BLUE TELEPHONE,

from his big band soul revue Big Twist and the Mellow Fellows,

With Pete were slide guitarist Jon Spiegel, bassist Roberto Aguilera and drummer Tom Leddy.  In addition to their Saturday night live music, they have a Friday Night Open Mike Jam Session hosted by John Sanner.

Pete Special solos in a tribute to his former band Leader Big Twist. Pete was a member of Big Twist & The Mellow Fellows.  “Hold On”   was one of  the songs they played oh so many moons ago at my college. For a private Catholic college it was such a treat to have the wild & crazy Larry “Big Twist” Nolan & all of those Mellow Fellows, including Mr. Pete Special (who had a sort of afro himself back then!!) play for us.

It was LIVE & it was great let me tell you. In this video it is just part of the song but you will get the gist of what he’s saying. Back then I didn’t have a camera like this one that TAKES VIDEO. This quick song tribute is on a stage with no spots & is dimly lit but the song & the music from Pete shine right on through! Just like it did back in the old days.
