Bluebirds & Bright Lights

 "Starting as an instrumental act, Bluebirds & Bright Lights, for David Lubarski, audience members let him know that vocals were needed. He sought out Angelina Lucero, who had worked with him on previous projects. "Dave told me he wanted to make the most beautiful music to ever come out of Northwest Indiana, and that was a little intimidating. But from the first time we practiced together, we knew it would work," said Lucero.
Lubarski is disturbed by what he sees as the anger present in many forms of music. "With Blue Birds, we want to bring audiences music with positive emotions, sharing a sense of peace and hope."
As a listener, I find their sound is heavily influenced by electronic music and art rock acts such as Air and Sigur Ros. The vocal style by Lucero reminds me of singers conveying a mood in sound as well as lyrics, such as Bjork or a little of the deceptively child-like phrasings of Chicago’s Joanna Newsom."

One of Chicago’s monster electric bassists, Frank Russell and his band opens Super Jamzz II! Chicago native Frank Russell has been playing bass since age 14. Throughout his busy, creative career, Frank has performed with Art Porter, Freddie Hubbard, Ramsey Lewis, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Alphonse Mouzon, Ken Chaney, Nicholas Barron, Mike Wolf, Willie Pickens and many others. He has also recorded five CDs with Chicago guitarist Henry Johnson and is a past recipient of the Hennessy Best of Chicago Jazz Search. Frank’s debut CD, Covering All Basses, was released in 2005. Frank is a bad ass bass player with a special love for the contemporary jazz of Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock etc. Make no mistake though; Frank can swing mainstream jazz with the best of bassists.

Frank Russell’s ultra tight band opens Super Jamzz II with Charles Heath on drums, Tony Carpenter percussion, Greg Spero keys and Peter Lerner guitar. Special guests performing include Miles Davis keyboardist-MD, Robert Irving III, singer creative spontaneous genius Nicholas Barron, fretless bass master Brian Derek, sax master Brian Gephart, singer extraordinaire Nanette Frank, great bass guitar of Wally Hustin, bad ass drummer Clyde Davis and many more to be announced.

Super Jamzz II is an orchestrated variety show with some jamming and tons of improvisational music. Jazz, blues funk, percussion, great singing all happen at Super Jamzz. Super Jamzz II a magical music event not to be missed.

Norm loves folk music & performs many songs by his friends, Steve Goodman & Tom Dundee.

Norm brought his laptop when he filled in at the last minute (Thanks Norm!) for Mick Scott as the Chicago Studio Club Tuesday night open mike host.

As you can see, he kindly displayed a photo of Mick from one of our sites, so that Mick was "there" with us. What a nice man that Norm!

Norman "Norm" Siegel is a guitarist, vocalist & man about town… that town being Sweet Home Chicago of course (MY kind of town!).

Vijay Tellis-Nayak

Vijay’s began playing piano at the age of five. His musical acclaim began early, winning local piano competitions. Starting at ten years old, he won the Eastern Illinois University Young Composers Contest three years in a row, garnering national attention for his orchestral compositions. He continued studying music and began performing professionally in high school on piano and guitar. He attended Northwestern University on scholarship from the Oak Park Arts Alliance and received a bachelors degree in Music Technology in 1997. During that time, he studied recording arts as well as jazz and classical piano, composition, music theory and communication studies. In 1999 Vijay received his masters degree from Northwestern University’s Communication Studies department. During undergraduate studies, Vijay began performing with Chris Clemente and Chris Siebold in what would become "Kick the Cat".

In addition to currently being a member of Kick the Cat, Ernie Denov’s "Bad Dog U", Nicholas Barron Hyperactive, Band of Joes, Frank Catalano Group, and Louis Stockwell Organ Quartet, Vijay has performed with Fareed Haque Group, Orbert Davis, Bill Quateman, Street Dancer, Luis Ewerling’s Acor do Brasil, the national tours of The Lion King and Wicked, Sumo, Kalyan Pathak’s Jayho Jazzmata, Tributosaurus, Brother Brother, Mike Ferro’s Townsound, Funk House, Ross Bon and too many others to name.

In addition to performing, Vijay also is one of the owners of the celebrated Chicago recording studio Curried Bagel Recording.
