BMR4 has been described as "a straight ahead jazz quartet from Chicago that incorporates blues, funk, Cajun, Latin, soul-jazz, and R&B into their act." The quartet features acoustic bassist CHRIS BERNHARDT, JAY MOYNIHAN on reeds and keyboard, MIKE RODBARD on drums, and NEAL ALGER on guitar. Neil Tesser wrote of BMR4 that it "plays a lot of songs rooted in blues and R & B. Music by James Brown jostles up against familiar tunes from Steely Dan or the Beatles; up-tempo modal jazz tunes from the 60s share space with moody, atmospheric pieces straight out of a movie soundtrack; and [it all includes] the infectious groove of John Scofield’s music. "

A dinner menu is available (as well as light fare), and drink prices have been reduced for the Hyde Park Jazz Society audience. Be sure to ask for the HPJazz Society prices.

A funky mix of  rock, jazz, funk, blues, and R&B, the group is described by its founder Chris “Hambone” Cameron as “Wildly eclectic and real funky…drop The Meters, Rufus and AC/DC in a blender, then stand back and hit the switch." Performing with local blues favorite Sally Weisenburg, this is the perfect summer show for a hot summer night.

JamBón is the brainchild of long time Sonia Dada keyboardist Chris “Hambone” Cameron. The group unites former members of Sonia Dada, Liquid Soul, and Weather Report. “ I’m not real big on labels and comparisons.” says Cameron. “It’s wildly eclectic, and real funky. Drop the Meters, Rufus, and AC/DC in a blender, then stand back and hit the switch!” JamBón‘s debut at Space will also be the group’s first Chicago area performance with their additional four piece horn section.

Grammy nominated R&B session keyboardist and composer Chris”Hambone”Cameron’s career spans more than 30 years. In addition to his work with Sonia Dada, he has toured and recorded with John Mayall, Big Twist, Harvey Mandel and Sugarcane Harris, David Bromberg, Chevere and many others. A partial listing of his numerous album credits include work with Mavis Staples, Bob Dylan, Freddy Jones Band, Liquid Soul, Rick Danko, Dennis De Young, and Ramsey Lewis. Songwriting credits include The Commodores, Richie Havens, and the feature films Holes, The Guardian, and A Perfect Murder.

Hidden way behind a dark window on a quiet block on North Halsted. There is a space that blurs the boundaries between your regular Lincoln-park bar and a mellow fire-lit speak easy. It’s a place that presents both the excitement of large crowds and live hip-hop, and the anonymity of a cool whining darkness. The bar is lined with antique bottles from the turn of the century. Tonics, they were called, for their supposed abilities to counter any ailment. The look and style is indefinite. The soft blocks of leather sofa are a jigsaw puzzle, each night bearing new ways to interlock with themselves. The space has no set identity. It is to each guest, what he chooses to see. It is to each guest what she chooses to be. The Tonic Room, it is called, for its universal ability to adapt.

Jessie Arlen, 22 year-old New York based jazz vocalist, Downbeat Student Music Award winner (2007) and budding songwriter returns to her hometown of Evanston, Illinois for a performance celebrating the release of her debut CD entitled "Certain Surprise".”

Jessie’s voice is pure and soulful and lends itself to multiple musical styles including jazz, folk, and R&B. Several of Chicago’s top jazz instrumentalists such as our very good friend drummer Phil Gratteau, will join her at this special performance.

In addition to Jessie & Phil are Neil Artwick on piano, Mark Beringer on bass, her dad Ken Arlen on saxophone, Russ Phillips on trombone, Mark Olen on trumpet, Richie Davis on guitar & Steve Roberts on ukulele & guitar!

The Preview portion of the party will explain the mission and give a taste of things to come at  Chicago Pop Festival, which is being rescheduled for the spring – late March or April 2010.
