Randall “Big Daddy” Webster (Tallahassee Florida USA) is an accomplished singer-songwriter penning tunes both for himself and artists around the world.  There’s an undeniable musical connection between Webster’s Blues and his audience.  Says Big Daddy; “The tradition of playing music from the soul is much the same around the world as it is in America and people tap into that.  The mission is to touch people’s primal core with my music… Ceol Dan Anum in Irish”  Big Daddy has toured overseas fifty-two (52) times to 28 countries.

The CHICAGO BLUES ANNUAL says, Randall ‘Big Daddy’ Webster has lived and breathed the Blues for over 25 years; first soaking it in as a wild child while growing up in the shadow of the Windy City (Chicago) during the 1960’s and 70’s; later swimming the undercurrent of ‘Deep River Blues’ while jamming with Bluesmen at the confluence of the Mississippi and the Ohio waterways during the 80’s; and for the last twenty-five plus years he’s tread through the swamp Blues of Florida’s backwoods jook joints making the gators growl along the way. He’s a true champion of America’s great indigenous music. The influences cut sharp, the tunes run deep, and the spirit held high when Randall ‘Big Daddy’ Webster stirs up his spicy gumbo of original home cooked Blues.  Trusting his four-octave voice, pulsing rhythm guitar, and beating foot makes it all simmer into a fine Blues brew!”

The Chicago Tribune calls Randall “Big Daddy” Webster & Red Hot Java “a delicious concoction of caffeine infused Blues!” HOTBANDS.com says “Big Daddy & Red Hot Java is fronted by three hundred pounds of heavenly joy and backed by a tight as a gnat’s booty rhythm section.” World Blues Review exclaims “Big Daddy & Red Hot Java’s patented ministry of booty quakin’ soul shakin’ Blues pierces the very core of your soul, and then sends you into a wild voodoo dance.” WWOZ 90.7 FM New Orleans’ Jazz & Heritage Station broadcasts “Big Daddy & Red Hot Java cooks up a wonderful Blues based roux peppered with Soul, Funk, R&B, Jazz and Hip Hop.” Big Daddy has opened for and shared the stage with B.B. King, Robert Cray, Bobby Rush, Keb Mo, Sam Lay, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, and many other Blues legends; and he’s opened for Rock/Pop legends such as the Doobie Brothers, Huey Lewis & The News, and Kool & The Gang.  Webster tours solo, duo and with his full band “Big Daddy &  Red Hot Java.”

Big Daddy is a Blues Foundation and Florida Humanities Council accredited Blues educator conducting seminars and workshops at Florida State University, Thomas University, College of DuPage, University College Cork Ireland, University of London Kingston (UK), and many other higher educational institutions.  And as founder of Blues For Humanity and board member of several not-for-profit organizations, Webster has helped raise money and awareness for humanitarian issues throughout the Florida Panhandle, the Southeastern USA, and overseas.

“Randall “Big Daddy” Webster delivers a new CD The Wounded Healer along with Professor Joël C. Johnson that’s a remarkable musical testament of our times.  It’s lyrics swim deep within our social conscience, and it cuts a new Blues path by mixing all of Blues’ children together.  The tunes are built on African American’s historically indigenous music mixing Blues with Jazz, Soul, Hip Hop and life for a thick sonic blend.  Big Daddy does most all of the songwriting and he tackles tough subjects such as “In The Name Of The Surge,” which follows the path of a US Army platoon wrecked with post traumatic stress disorder.  The Rocking “Tucson” focuses on the highly charged partisan politics that may have caused the shooting of US Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.  And the contemplative “Who Made God” deals with the hardest question we make ever ask ourselves.  But there definitely is an upbeat optimistic view of things too with the Motown flavored “New Day,” a tune which Big Daddy says was inspired by President Obama’s election and the great hope of positive changes in America.  The reworking of Paul McCartney’s  “Blackbird” brings a soulfulness indicative of its civil rights inspiration.  And the foot-stomping Blues tune “That’s My Religion” takes on an Abraham Lincoln quote that makes our life’s journey an easier path to follow.  This CD will make you think, it moves you, and is breaks new ground in a genre that desperately needs it.  I see The Wounded Healer being nominated for a 2012 contemporary Blues award and more.” Blues Insight 5/15/11.
