"She’s a Carioca" Petra van Nuis
A little history: " Carioca is a Portuguese adjective or demonym word that refers to the metropolitan area of the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The original word "Kara’i oca" comes from the indigenous Amerindian language of the Tupi people, meaning "White Man’s House". It is said that the first Portuguese dwellings in Rio de Janeiro were placed along a limpid stream, which soon got the Portuguese name "Carioca". " http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carioca
Antonio Carlos Jobim wrote this oh so long ago, and when I heard it as a kid, I knew I liked it, but knew none of these details. Thanks to the world travelers, Petra van Nuis and Andy Brown, this music has come back to me and it soooo soothing.
